Helena’s third annual Big Tree Competition

Growing Friends of Helena is excited to announce our third annual Big Tree Competition!

This competition is open to any Growing Friends members. You can become a Growing Friends member by providing an annual donation to our non-profit to help us continue to improve Helena’s urban tree canopy.

Winner will receive a $200 gift certificate to Growing Friends.

Competition rules:

  1. This contest is limited to Ash species. Green, white, and black are the most common kinds, with Green Ash reigning supreme at nearly 50% of our urban canopy coverage.
  2. What makes a tree big? It’s girth. This is not a height contest. The biggest tree will be determined by its measurement at DBH (diameter at breast height).  Here is a resource on that: LINK
  3. Think you found the biggest Ash tree in town? Submit an email to growingfriends@gmail.com with the following information;
    1. Location of tree: we will need to verify the circumference of the winning tree. Please provide an address and any details on the location (i.e. located in the boulevard in front of the house at 78 Biggest Tree Street, fourth tree from corner)
    2. Picture of the tree.
    3. Your full name, so we can verify you in our membership database. If you are not a member, you can donate today!
  4. The winner will be announced at our annual members meeting. The meeting is tentatively scheduled for 6 pm, Thursday November 6th at Ten Mile Brewery (in the back). This page will be updated with any changes.
